Joseph Mast traveled to the mountains from Randolph
County, North Carolina, where he was born in 1764. His
father John had settled there after emigrating from
Switzerland via Pennsylvania, where his brother
remained. Joseph is said to have traded his rifle, his
dog, and a pair of leggings for 1000 acres of fertile
Watauga River Valley land. The first house, a two-room
log cabin, was built around 1810 and remains today as
the oldest inhabitable log cabin in Watauga County.
Guest Testimonials
"Danielle, We thoroughly
enjoyed meeting with you and all of our vendors. We are
so pleased with everyone. You are such a pleasant
person. Hollie, Tina, Gregory and Jason are wonderful.
We're excited about H's cake. I've never had a wedding
cake with so many flavors. Thank you so much for all the
coordination and work that you've done so far. If you
need anything from me, please don't hesitate to ask. I
know D. has to get back with you concerning her dress, a
color swatch and the exact names for the calligraphy
cards. ~ L."
"Danielle, Many thanks to you and each there in Valle
Crucis for making a brief stay a wonderful one. - DS"
"Sandra, S. and I had a wonderful time. The inn was
beautiful, the food was great, and we love the Valle
Crucis area, but what really made the trip special was
your family's hospitality. We appreciate the time you
took to make our weekend unique. I have already
recommended the Mast Farm Inn to several of my friends
and co-workers, and S. and I hope to be back very soon
ourselves. Please get in touch when you're in Raleigh...
we look forward to hearing from you again. Have a
wonderful week! T."
